Best Seat Cushion to Relieve Back Pain

Susan believes there is nothing more irritating than "interruptions" in sweet life. Using fact and humor, she loves sharing advice.

"Oh my aching back!" The pain from our spine shoots out into all areas of our bodies.

I have experienced it and have sought solutions to relieve my back pain. My lower back hurts after sitting too long.

How can you get relief from this horrible back pain that affects your whole body?

When I started seeing my alternative chiropractor, I had back pain and neck pain. The pain all stems from the nerves in the spine.

This was not a great revelation to me, but I had never paid enough attention to try to find solutions to my pain. All I knew was I did not feel good.

Her chiropractic advice was to get a Seat Solution Orthopedic Seat Cushion. This little black, wedge-shaped cushion has been a blessing to my back and neck pain.

How Seat Solution Orthopedic Seat Cushions Help Alleviate Back Pain

When sitting on the wedge-shape of the cushion, it causes your back to tilt into a proper S-posture position. The correct posture gives relief to your vertebrae that is pinching nerve endings creating the pain. At the center of the thickest portion of the wedge seat is a cut out U-shape for your tailbone to rest without pressure. This is the key to lessening the pressure on your back and spine. When your tailbone is on a hard surface, it pushes up on your spine. This pressure causes your spine to lock up in different areas. The Seat Solution Orthopedic Seat Cushion provides relief for this pain-causing pressure.

It is 12 inches wide and 10 inches deep. The portion with the U-shaped cut out is 4 inches high. It is made of 100% polyurethane memory foam. It is black and is covered on one side with micro-suede material and faux leather on the other. You can use either side.

Where Should You Use the Seat Solution Orthopedic Seat Cushion?

I use my seat cushion everywhere. I have one in every kitchen chair sitting around my table. I care more about being pain-free than I do about aesthetics in this case.

I have one in my vehicle, and I also take it with me everywhere I go. In the U-shaped section of the cushion, there is a handle that makes it easy to carry.

I have even taken it to friend and family get-togethers. I don't take the chance of spending hours visiting while causing my spine to lock up on me as I sit on a hard chair. Even if the chair has a cushion, many times even the cushions are not enough to protect my tailbone.

I am much more comfortable when I go watch a football or basketball game when I have my seat cushion. As a parent with many sporting and school events, the orthopedic seat cushion has saved my behind many times over.

Other Reasons to Have a Seat Solution Orthopedic Seat Cushion

I have had friends who have had tailbone injuries from falls on concrete or the ice. I always recommend the seat cushion for them.

Many doctors recommend some type of cushion for these types of injuries. My chiropractor recommended mine.

If you are a thin person, sitting on hard surfaces is more likely to cause back pain. Your tailbone connects instantly with the hard surface and compacts those vertebrae. Don't do it to yourself. Get one of these seat cushions and keep it with you. It will save you pain and money in the long run.

Final Testamonial

I do not go anywhere without my easy-to-carry, lightweight, comfortable Seat Solution Orthopedic Seat Cushion. It relieves the pressure on my back and stops the pain before it starts.

This unique seat cushion helps with tailbone and back injuries. I have experienced it myself. If my back is out of alignment, I go to my alternative chiropractor then sit on my seat cushion in the car, at home, and at work. It helps my spine maintain its adjustment.

I keep several at home for my dining room and computer chairs. I use and carry one in my car. I have one in my chair at school. I recommend you keep them wherever you must sit for long periods of time.

Hi Angie! I have been using mine for years. The cushion helps me so much. I also use an alternative chiropractor who gently puts my vertebrae back into place on an as needed basis. My chair cushions at home and work help me keep my alignment. Also, I have learned not to cross my legs any more - a very hard habit to break. Good luck! I hope all goes well with you!

I have just ordered one of these for my office chair, I have sciatica and spend the majority of my life in severe pain. I am really hoping this helps me, as I am reading more about back pain than the pain in the butt and legs due to sciatica. There are times I have to work on my knees using a pillow due to the pain of the bucket style cheap office chair my job provides. If this doesn't work, a doctors order for a special chair may be in order. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it arrives soon!

Hi Stuff4Kids! Gentle stretching exercises are so important and helpful. We have to consciously give ourselves breaks when we are sitting a lot for our work. I do love these seat cushions. I take them everywhere. Got to be good to yourself. :-)

Thanks for dropping by and the votes! :-)

I started getting back pain recently but found that gentle stretching exercises help a lot. But now that I have started writing I think I'll be spending much more time sitting in front of my computer and so this is a very interesting article for me to think about if I find that it gets worse. It is so hard to keep a good posture especially when you get engrossed in a good film or good read. This cushion really could be the answer.

Voted up, useful and interesting. :)

Well well well! And here I was just today complaining about my back and how I do too much sitting.. and I see your review on this cushion. I am going to purchase one and hopefully I can alleviate some of this Butt Pain! lol Great review Susan! Thumbs up!

Hi Susan! I think you will be very pleased. I even take mine to family and friends who have wooden dining room chairs. Most of them have bought them for their hard chairs because they spend so much time at the dining room table.

Thanks for dropping by!! :-)

Susan Zutautas from Ontario, Canada on November 03, 2012:

I could sure use one of these. I've been procrastinating about buying a new chair since my office chair wore out. Here I sit on a wooden dining room chair for most of the day. So uncomfortable. Now that I see these are good cushions I'll have to bite the bullet and buy one.

Great review!

No, Paula, I couldn't hear you over my wailing. LOL I wish we could click on each others' adds. I find so many great things from other hubbers that I want.

You are so right about being writers and sitting. We sit for hours without thinking about it or the pain we may be inflicting on our backs and spines. Gotta do whatever it takes to take care of ourselves.

So glad you dropped in! Thanks for the comment and votes. :-)

Hi Rasta! You need to get one to prevent future pain or to help alleviate current pain. I didn't start using them until after my back went out the first time. Usually it is my tailbone that goes out - I know, sounds strange, but I have to have them now that I am used to them protecting me.

Good luck! I hope all is well from your injury now.

Thanks for dropping by! :-)

Susan Holland (author) from Southwest Missouri on November 03, 2012:

Hi Audrey! I don't leave home without one. Just as I told Bill, above, I have one with me all the time. Sometimes my back goes out, but I use them as preventive measures, too.

Thanks for dropping by! :-)

Susan Holland (author) from Southwest Missouri on November 03, 2012:

Hi Bill! I do swear by them. I have at least 10 of them at home, school, and in the car. I used to worry that people would think I was crazy for carrying them around, but I have only gotten positive feedback and am seeing others carrying them around. They are much better than stadium seats for a ballgame.

Thanks for dropping by! :-)

Hi ALocsin! I hope you don't have to ever experience back problems. These cushions do take the pressure off for anyone, though.

Thanks for dropping by and the votes! :-)

Suzie from Carson City on November 02, 2012:

Yes, Thank you. Were you listening to me moan and groan? My lower back.....all the time. Don't know what I'd do without my chiropractor and my skechers! Definitely need this cushion. In fact, Susan, it seems to me you might want to SELL these to hubbers!! I mean, who sits on their butts more than we do? Even office staff only do it about 7 hrs a day. You'll be able to retire in luxury!.....Good info!.....UP++

I have experienced a tailbone injury while playing soccer. It is very uncomfortable. I wish I had known about this earlier.

Audrey Howitt from California on November 01, 2012:

I know that we all sit too much! This looks like it is easily portable too! Great hub!

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on November 01, 2012:

I see this as quite helpful for chronic back pain sufferers, and it carries more weight since you have used it and swear by it. Great job Susan; good luck with the contest.

Aurelio Locsin from Orange County, CA on November 01, 2012:

I don't normally have back pain but it's good to know that a product exists to help with that problem. Voting this Up and Useful.
